| Highlights of the main workshops conducted
and/or facilitated by the centre every year starting from
2001 to date: |
- Good Governance workshop Newsletter.
- A specialized manual on Good Governance produced and disseminated to a wide circle of civil society organizations both in Egypt and the Arab region.
- A monitoring and evaluation workshop conducted where 8 Egyptian organizations participated.
- A training workshop on Rights Based Approach to three organizations (Bashayer, El Shehab and Maakum) 20 participants from these organizations attended the training.
- The facilitation of a mapping of the target community was made for three communities from Cairo suburbs.
- 3 training workshops, four-days each, to the New Woman Foundation on Monitoring and Evaluation, Training of Trainers and Strategic Planning.
- 2 workshops on Strategic Planning were conducted to the Egyptian Network of V-day Karama, which is part of the international Network of V-day. 35 participants attended the training.
- A five-day training workshop on Advocacy to "Elshehab Foundation" for 15 members of both El Shehab Foundation and the community. The training addressed the problem of non accessible water in the district of "El Hagana".
- A four-day workshop for planning an advocacy campaign against the use of leniency in rape cases. 14 participants from 7 women organizations and Human Rights Organizations attended the training.
- A three-day workshop on Rights Based Approach to Development for participants from 6 organizations.
- A three day workshop on Planning Election Campaigns, with a model of an election campaign from women's perspective. Around 20 women from 4 organizations and groups attended the workshop.
- As part of assisting and supporting civil society organizations, DSC assisted BLACD by evaluating its project of "the Protection of the Girl Child".
- DSC helped in the formulation of BLACD's proposal addressing the poor and landless farmers in Mynia.
- 1 workshop on Planning and Proposal Writing for El Warsha Theatre Group.
- A four-day collective workshop on Needs Assessment. 21 participants from 18 organizations attended, including participants from 3 governorates (Qena, Swiss, Sohag) and 3 participants from 3 Arab countries (Morocco, Yemen and Palestine)
- 1 collective workshop on Monitoring and Evaluation. 12 participants from 8 Egyptian organizations attended.
- 1 collective training workshop on Advocacy on health and education. 25 participants from 12 interested organizations and activists were invited.
- DSC is monitoring and evaluating three projects that were selected by the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) for support.
- In the field of identifying new initiatives:
- The newly identified initiatives reached 30 organizations.
- DSC provided in-depth assessment in 2 governorates (Mynia and Alexandria)
- 6 new initiatives have been visited and assessed with visual and written documentation in Mynia,
- 7 new initiatives have been visited and the visits documented in Alexandria,
- There are plans for technical support to some of those in building their capacity in the field of advocacy campaigns.
- 4 new initiatives were visited in Cairo governorate and a report written on each
- Other quick exploration visits have taken place in Upper Egypt (3 organizations in Qena, Aswan, and Sohag)
- At least 10 different meetings took place with different donors exploring possibilities of cooperation.
- The facilitation and training of the project of Promoting the Good Practices and Avoiding Bad Practices: a documentation and joint collaborative learning project with 6 organizations addressing "Violence Against Women".
- DSC continued its work as the facilitator of the meetings of the Joint Collaborate Group in 2006. In this framework, 23rd February 2007 was chosen for a public social event for Street Children, in order to face this problem by claiming society's responsibility for it.

- A collective Good Governance Workshop attended by 15 Egyptian organizations.
- The conduction of four different meetings and field visits with the "Joint Collaboration Team" on issues of collective partnership concerns.
- New Initiatives support and training:
- The importance of joint collaboration and networking between the new initiatives and the old established institutions and the role that DSC can play in that (from advice on donors, review of proposals, networking, registration logistics and the like, etc).
- Proposal Writing and Operational planning training to 5 organizations from Aswan.
- Good Governance training attended by 15 participant from 8 newly identified organizations.
- Financial management to 10 organizations from Upper Egypt (Aswan, Qena, Suez, and Menia) and Cairo.
- Individual tailored training sessions:
- Needs assessment and Proposal Writing for the New Women Foundation; a women rights organization.
- Strategic Planning for the Women Legal Aid Foundation (CEWLA); a community based women rights organization.
- Strategic Planning for the Center of Rural Studies; an association working on farmers rights.
- Strategic Planning for Al Shehab Association, a development community based organization.
- Two collective Governance workshop one in Amman (Jordan) and one in Cairo (Egypt) attended by 21 and 16 participants respectively from 13 organizations in 6 different countries within the Region in addition to Egypt within the framework of the two year project on “Good Governance in the Arab Region”.
- A collective workshop for “Establishing a Website” attended by 14 individual from 10 different civil society organizations from Egypt.
- Conducted around 35 visits to identify New Initiatives, ideas and established organizations, but need managerial support, in 4 different Governorates: Cairo, Aswan, Qena, and Suez.

- A collective Advocacy workshop attended by 16 participants from 10 civil society organizations in Egypt, 1 from Iraq and 1 from Sudan.
- A collective Governance workshop attended by 11 organizations from 6 countries in the Arab Region in partnership with BoardSource (formerly the National Center for Nonprofit Boards).
- An evaluation for the training of local council members project that was conducted by El Qarar Center and commissioned by Diakonia (a Swedish non-governmental organization).
- An individual Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) training for SEMAT group (Independent Film Makers for Production and Distribution).
- An individual Proposal Writing workshop for the Better Life Association for Comprehensive Development (BLACD).
- Two workshops of Needs Assessment and Networking for a number of community facilitators within a Capacity Building project commissioned by the Institute of International Education.

- A three-day workshop on Gender Training
in collaboration with Appropriate Communication Techniques
for Development (ACT).
- A collective TOT workshop attended
by 12 different civil society organizations.
- A seminar on Financial Management attended
by 12 representatives of eight organizations.
- A two-day workshop on Advocacy and
Lobbying attended by a number of consultants and experts
in this field.
- Our principal consultant and general
director of the center participated in the assessment
of Ministry of Social Affairs (MISA), NGO department,
in the context of designing a program to develop its role
from controlling to an enabling one towards NGOs. This
project was commissioned by the European Commission.
- Our principal consultant and head of
training unit designed the disability strategy for Oman
Ministry of Social Affairs, commissioned by the Government
of Oman.
- Our principal consultant and head of
training unit conducted an evaluation mission in Albania,
commissioned by the Netherlands Organization for Cooperation
and Development (Novib).
- Two workshops on PME for two independent
art groups in Egypt.
- A three-day workshop in coordination
with ACT for the Sudanese Education Network for Development
(SEND) on the main issues and concepts in education and
the introduction of the participants to the International
Declaration “Education for All” as well as the Dakar Declaration.
- A Strategic Planning workshop for the
Hisham Mubarak Legal Center (HMLC).
- Two workshops of Strategic Planning
and TOT for the Association of Health and Environmental
Development (AHED).
- A three-day workshop on “Developmental
Concepts and the Roles of Community Facilitators”, a project
funded by the Institute of International Education.
- Two workshops of TOT and Gender (three
days each) for a group of community facilitators within
the Capacity Building project.
- Needs Assessment workshop with Children Rights organizations
during the design of a program commissioned by the European
Commission, which resulted in forming an independent network
of these organizations with a common agenda.

- A three-day PME workshop attended by 12 representatives of eight organizations.
- A collective Training of Trainers (TOT) workshop which was attended by seven NGOs.
- Two collective Governance workshops attended by 32 participants from 16 organizations.
- A Needs Assessment collective workshop in-office attended by six organizations.
- Two individual Strategic Planning workshops for two independent art groups in Egypt.
- Two workshops on Needs Identification and Proposal Writing for the Egyptian Center of Euro-Mediterranean Reflection and Studies established in the Jesuit center (in Alexandria).
- Jointly with the Jesuit Center and the Warsha Theatre Group, a three day seminar on the relationship between creative artistic expression and development (in Alexandria).
- Two workshops for the three-year regional planning of CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency).
- An individual workshop for the Better Life Association on Proposal Writing in Menia.
- A Strategic Planning for Wadi El-Nile Association for Quary Workers in Menia.
- An individual Needs Identification and Proposal Writing for the Osiris center in Aswan.
- An individual workshop on Operational Planning for Bashayer center in Helwan.
- Several meetings with different partners to enhance cooperation among civil society organizations.
- A two-day workshop on the Effects of Globalization on Civil Society held in Ain Sokhna (Suez) attended by twelve different civil society organizations.
- Participation of Principal Consultant in Identification Mission on the Civil Society Sector, commissioned by the European Commission, aiming at the designing of a three-year program for the strengthening of civil society in Egypt.
- A study by the KFW (German Development Bank) aiming at studying the role of NGOs in micro-finance.

- An individual Strategic Planning process for the Sudanese Development Initiative Abroad (SUDIA – a Sudanese organization working with refugees in Egypt and the Horn of Africa, located in Egypt).
- An international workshop for Center for Training of Workers Unions and Services (CTUWS) to present its draft curriculum for the workers school that was designed jointly with DSC.
- A three-day individual Strategic Planning for the Better Life Association for Comprehensive Development (BLACD) in Menia, which resulted in the production of a three-year plan for BLACD.
- A collective five days Needs Assessment workshop attended by 14 representatives of nine organizations.
- A collective Planning Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) workshop attended by 12 representatives of 8 organizations.
- A PME workshop for the Arab Art Foundation in Amman, Jordan.
- A long term Capacity Building project of 4-6 months for the Jesuit Cultural Center, which included PME, Needs Assessment, Proposal Writing and Fundraising training workshops.
- A six-day Proposal Writing workshop for BLACD.
- An evaluation for the CTUWS work at the end of its three year plan.
- The build up of a simple database on the Sudanese organizations based in Cairo as commissioned by Novib.
- The creation of a new project (commissioned by the Ford Foundation) for the Institutional Capacity Building of four independent artistic groups. DSC played the role of the facilitator in a peer learning approach between the four organizations with in-house specific training and consultations in the area of institutional capacity building for the individual organizations.
- Three Strategic Planning training sessions for three different Art organizations from the platform.
- Several round table discussions organised in collaboration with Al Fustat center in preparation for the production of a book which documents the experience of the development of civil society in Egypt.
