Capacity Building for NGO’s in the Arab Region
Building on the three years success of the project supported by NOVIB for Capacity Building for NGO’s in Egypt and the expansion of DSC activities and reputation in the Arab Region, the previous project was renewed for three years on the Arab NGO’s level 2007-2009.
Training Workshops, manuals, platform of cooperation, and documentation for experiences and new initiatives are the component of this project. That is based on the needs of Ngo’s in the Arab region and targeting beneficiaries more than institutions.
The first objective of this project is to support civil society in Egypt and the Arab region, to develop tools, skills and knowledge based on interaction with communities and target groups, through a rights based approach. Another objective is to develop a common social agenda between different and diverse civil society organizations. The final objective is to contribute to the strengthening of communities, through raising their own capacities, knowledge and interaction with other actors in society.

The Support of New initiatives based on Community Participation and Mobilization
This project can be considered a response to the growth of civil society sector in Egypt, and its increasing need to address community development and institutional capacity building of organizations. This project targets community based NGO's as well as the local government aiming at developing democratic mechanisms from below, as well as increasing viable community access to services and benefits.
This project aims at supporting and strengthening community based/target group initiatives, which are based on mobilizing and organizing communities and developing their own independent agendas.
This project concentrates on three community based organizations (one in each community) as a key partner with the community. Thus, support is given to both the organization and its target community for the period of two years - July 2006 until July 2008.

Promoting Good Practices and Avoiding Bad Practices, a documentation and joint collaborative learning project
As part of the process of institutional capacity building of NGO's, DSC has been able to monitor the institutional progress and growing impact of different NGO's in their diverse fields of influence. One of the main weaknesses that still remains as a problem is the differential capacity of organizations to document and make visible their different experiences and share them with other civil society organizations. DSC discussed its interest in developing its own capacity and focus in this area, in order to benefit NGO's to build this experience. Through discussions with Oxfam Novib, it was agreed to make the development of the experience of documentation one of the priority areas which DSC would work on within its institutional capacity building support during 2007. (we can say throughout the period of this project implementation from ---- until ----)
In collaboration with six CSO's this project aims at improving the skill of learning among participant NGO's through capturing their experiences, building experiences internally to ensure sustainability and enhancing exchange of knowledge and experience among participant NGO's and sharing it with other initiatives.

Advocacy and Lobbying Training in the Arab Region
The practice of Advocacy & lobbying has taken on more importance in recent years for all non-profit sector organizations. Rapid changes in government policies and their impact on different sectors of the population have made of advocacy and lobbying increasingly important tools that need to be properly analyzed and utilized in the process of creating change. This applies particularly in countries which do not have a long history of democratic practices. Organizations from three countries Morocco, Egypt and Palestine in addition to a foreign partner, Oxfam Novib, agreed on the need to work together to develop campaign strategies and the competencies of civil society concerning the privatization of essential services in the region.
During the period of the project (2007 - 2009),this project will aim at developing the knowledge and skills of NGO activists in the area of advocacy and lobbying and collective practices. It will also aim at promoting the involvement of participants in campaigning in the field of privatization of essential services in the Arab region, in the context of the broader aim of promoting NGO's as actors of change, with the underlying principle of community and target group participation and empowerment.
Promoting the Democratic Process - implemented in nine local communities in five governorates
DSC is the technical and consultancy office for the project of Promoting the democratic process supported by the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights. This project has three overall objectives. The first of which is to improve the livelihoods in Egypt as local and national power structures meet the needs and uphold the rights of the communities they are responsible for. Another objective is to strengthen and promote participatory democratic governance in Egypt through empowerment of communities, organized in and represented by community-based civil society organizations. The third and final objective is to influence decision makers in order to enlarge the space for civil society in Egypt and bring national legislation and policies related to civil society in line with international standards.
Develop training manual, conducting several training workshops to participant CSO's and local council members, raising the awareness of community groups, conducting several trainings for local council members among other activities are the main components of this project which will be implemented during the period from 2008 – 2010.
